Counsel General For Wales Visits Geldards Law Firm
On Thursday 19th April 2018 the Counsel General for Wales, Jeremy Miles AM, visited Geldards’ head office in Cardiff. The meeting, with senior management of one of Wales leading law firms, was arranged to discuss some of the issues currently facing commercial law firms in the region.
The Counsel General is the Welsh government’s chief legal advisor and representative in the courts and is responsible for making representations about any matter affecting Wales and being involved in legal proceedings, independently from the Welsh Government, if it is necessary to protect the public interest.
Jeremy Miles AM was appointed Counsel General in November 2017 by the Queen, on the recommendation of the First Minister of Wales and is a qualified solicitor after studying law at Oxford University. His experience includes working as a senior legal advisor in the media sector at companies including ITV and NBC Universal. Most recently, he launched a consultancy business working in the international broadcast and digital sector.
The visit was organised by Geldards Partner Chris Williams who was joined by Chief Executive Jeff Pearson and Vice Chairman Huw Williams. On top of the broad discussion on issues in the legal sector, the Geldards team updated the Counsel General on its work supporting key sectors in Wales including work in FinTech, Digital and Bio-science sectors. They were also able to update Jeremy about the work Geldards do for the Welsh Government.
The meeting was very successful for all parties involved.
The Counsel General said:
“I very much enjoyed my visit to Geldards – one of the oldest legal firms in Wales. It was a useful opportunity to learn more about some of the key legal and practical issues facing commercial law firms at the present time.”
Jeff Pearson, Geldards Chief Executive, said:
“It was a great pleasure to host Counsel General Jeremy Miles AM and members of his team at a very insightful breakfast meeting. We shared our views on the welsh legal landscape as we see it and explained some of the steps we’re taking to meet the challenges being faced by law firms such as ours.”
