Geldards launch specialist Shariah Family Law service

Leading law firm Geldards has announced the launch of a specialist Shariah Family law service to help guide clients through the complexities of the dissolution of a marriage under Islamic/Shariah Law.

Geldards Family law team provides a complete range of family law services, and this newly created dedicated team is headed up by experienced Senior Associate Aysha Chouhdary.  Aysha is one of the few family lawyers in the UK advising on religious, cultural and international jurisdiction issues and specifically on Shariah Law and Islamic Rulings.

With over ten years’ experience dealing with complex religious and cultural matters (often with an international element), Aysha is a multi-linguist, with languages including Urdu, Mirpuri, Punjabi, Hindi and English.

This new service for Muslim clients advises on the civil and religious aspects of Shariah Family Law, providing a sensitive understanding of cultural issues for clients based in the UK and overseas.

As well as offering advice on Nikah contracts alongside prenuptial agreements, the team advises clients in respect of Mahr issues, the validity of marriage, divorce and financial orders obtained abroad, Shariah divorce as well as financial matters and arrangements for children (keeping in mind Ramadan and Eid etc).
